At Cherratta Lodge, we deliver more than a place to stay — we provide a home base for people and partnerships to thrive.
Our identity
Our identity as an Indigenous business is at the heart of everything we do.
Cherratta Lodge stands proudly on Ngarluma Country, guided by the cultural leadership of Ngarluma Elder Uncle Harry Mowarin, whose family ties trace back to Cherratta Station, the Lodge’s namesake. This deep connection to land and history grounds our story in cultural continuity, community, and care.
Uncle Harry’s influence ensures Cherratta Lodge remains a place where people can feel safe, respected, and supported — a reflection of our belief that business success and cultural integrity go hand in hand.
Our commitment extends beyond our doors. We actively create employment and training opportunities for Indigenous people across the Pilbara, offering pathways into hospitality, maintenance, catering, and trades. We champion Indigenous entrepreneurship, supporting emerging businesses through partnerships, contracts, and mentorship.
By combining opportunity with respect for culture, Cherratta Lodge is helping to build a sustainable future for the Pilbara — one that honours Country, empowers people, and strengthens community.
Our brand
The Cherratta Lodge logo draws inspiration from the ancient rock art of Murujuga (Burrup Peninsula), located on Ngarluma Country in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
The Burrup Peninsula and surrounding islands form one of the largest and oldest collections of petroglyphs (rock engravings) in the world, literally millions of individual ancient artworks. Many are believed to be 40,000 to 50,000 years old, making this cultural landscape among the most significant and enduring records of human creativity. Some engravings are so ancient that the rock surfaces have naturally re-patinated, pointing to their extraordinary antiquity.
Among these artworks are distinctive motifs of concentric circles joined by lines. While their original meaning is not known, Cherratta Lodge has respectfully drawn inspiration from these forms to symbolise our own values.
For us, this signifies Unity, Collaboration, and Equality. The interconnected circles represent our people and departments working together—like parts of a honey ants’ nest, where no part is more important than another. Each role depends on and supports the others, creating a strong, interdependent system. This philosophy shapes our organisational structure, where collaboration replaces hierarchy and every contribution is valued.
The colour palette reflects the meeting of land and sea. Earthy red represents the land and the red rocks of Murujuga. Blue represents the Indian Ocean that surrounds the Dampier Archipelago. Together, these colours embody the spirit of place where Cherratta Lodge operates, grounding our brand identity in both the cultural heritage and the natural environment of the region.
